Feedback Dashboard task force

Hi Lukep913,

I noticed you replied to some feedback from the new Feedback Dashboard feature – you might be interested in the task force Steven Walling and I just created for this purpose: Wikipedia:Feedback Dashboard. Thanks for diving in on your own and helping the newbies, and I hope you'll sign up! Maryana (WMF) (talk) 00:17, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

thanks for the answer and more puntual question

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History about this page...people cannot edit it fine...but there is a big mistake! the page says on the right:

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." —Carlos Santana

...as in the references the quote is from George Santayana not Carlos Santana the rock dude a guy posted it on the discussion page the 7th of november but still no reply! and is the "history" page of wiki... how is it possibile to gain attention on matters as such? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Niccolo.beduschi (talkcontribs) 02:47, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

I changed the link. As for the talk pages of articles, usually people who regularly edit the article watch the talk page. If something is wrong, you can either edit it yourself or ask another user that is active in the particular article topic to help you. -- Luke (Talk) 02:52, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

Tried to leave Talkback > confused

Sigh. I am a smart person. WiKi is foreign language to me. I tried to follow steps for leaving "talkback" memo. Too complicated for me to follow. Sorry. Hope this accomplishes same task, albeit differently. (And, conveys new info!) Oops, but the other one lets me delete it. This one may not? Workaround? Also, is there a Wiki-edit Glossary? (albeit lengthy). e.g., I presume I know what you mean by "revert" - But, that's an intuitive guess. It would be better to have ability to verify my assumption.KnowLimits (talk) 13:21, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Trivia Section for College Gameday Article

I was wondering, should we start a Trivia Section in the College Gameday article? I know you deleted the section about Lee Corso's "expletive" incident, but there are other significant events that happened in College Gameday throughout the time. So it should be wise to start a new section in the article. Bentoman (talk) 05:01, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Hello Bentoman. I'm not very keen on Trivia sections in articles. According to WP:TRIVIA, information not a part of any other section should be added in an organized way. After a while, when there is more information added, it gets more disorganized and more harder to read. Try reading these steps on how to integrate information into articles. Thanks for messaging me. -- Luke (Talk) 12:38, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Your edit? Someone else adding your signature to an edit?

I am puzzled by this edit which appears to be signed by you but which appears to have been posted by another. Was it your intent to award that editor a barnstar? Thanks. Edison (talk) 18:46, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Hmm, that's odd. I don't recall giving that user a barnstar. According to that diff, he added it and for some reason it put my signature on it. -- Luke (Talk) 20:27, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Accountcreator

Hello Lukep913, since you are highly active on the account creation interface, I have enabled accountcreator on your account. This will enable you to ignore the normal limit on daily account creations and other checks. Please take note of the following points:

  • This permission does not give you any special status or authority.
  • Be sure that the conflicting account is inactive when overriding the spoofing check.
  • Creation of inappropriate accounts or pages may lead to its removal.
  • Disruptive editing of edit notices may lead to its removal
  • You can display the {{Accountcreator topicon}} top icon or the {{User wikipedia/accountcreator}} userbox on your user page.
  • If, for any reason, you decide you do not want the permission, let me know and I can remove it.
If you have any questions about the permission, don't hesitate to ask me. Otherwise, happy editing! Salvio Let's talk about it! 17:21, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks Salvio! Greatly appreciated. -- Luke (Talk) 17:21, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Luke, please see this request and my comments there. I realise this was your first 'flagged user' request but you handled it incorrectly. The requested username was free on enwiki (and on all wikis) and it was the conflicting username that had accounts at enwiki and mlwiki (both of which were inactive, therefore the account creation could proceed). You also sent a custom close to the user (which you did not sign with your Wikipedia username as you should have) and custom closing is not the standard procedure in these situations.
I would urge you to please re-read the Account Creation Guide, especially the section on similar account names (4.1) before you handle any other 'flagged user' requests. It is very important. Also remember that you should always always sign your custom closes with your name and if you ever need help or are unsure how to handle a request, you can always click on the "Chat" link at the top of the interface to ask advice from other ACC users, or leave it for somebody else. Please make sure you understand where you went wrong with all the points I've mentioned above and you can ask me if you're not sure. Regards. Mato (talk) 19:44, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

One last thing. If you haven't already done so, please subscribe to the Account Creation Mailing List. It is a mailing list for tool users to see custom closes that have been sent and to discuss any issues via email. Mato (talk) 19:52, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

Take a look at my comments there. That was an obvious UPol; what did you think you had seen when you checked the links? ~~ Hi878 (Come shout at me!) 02:30, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Hello Hi878. I didn't mean to put in the whois into the comment. I meant the Google search. They're some companies with the similar names like "Las Vegas Vip". I was 99% positive to close it as a UPol violation, however I wanted another user to verify it was indeed a UPol violation. -- Luke (Talk) 02:39, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
I apologize if I sound at all rude, but your comment says the opposite. You said that the name was fine, and you were worried about the e-mail. Are you saying that you were wrong about that in the comment, or have I misunderstood you? ~~ Hi878 (Come shout at me!) 02:42, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Welcoming you to the participants list on AfC!

Hi, and welcome to WikiProject Articles for creation! We are a group of editors who work together on the Articles for creation and Images for upload pages.

A few tips that you might find helpful:

  • Please take time to fully read the reviewers' instructions before reviewing submissions.
  • The project's discussion board is the best place to ask for help or advice. You might like to watchlist this page, and you are encouraged to take part in any discussion that comes up.
  • Article submissions that need reviewing can be found in Category:Pending AfC submissions and there is also a useful list which is maintained by a bot.
  • You might wish to add {{AFC status}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions. There is also a project userbox. If you haven't done so already, please consider adding your name to the list of participants.
  • Several of our members monitor the #wikipedia-en-help connect IRC channel, and you are welcome to join in to ask Wikipedia-related questions.
  • The IRC channel #wikipedia-en-afc connect is used occasionally for internal discussion regarding the Articles for Creation process, and also serves as a recent changes feed, displaying all edits made in the Articles for Creation namespace.

Once again, welcome to the project. Mediation4u (talk) 09:39, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

I find the box above useful for AfC quick links. Hope this helps, Mediation4u (talk) 09:39, 6 December 2011 (UTC) editing is fun

Template question

I need some help with templates. I'm using the template {{birth year and age}} because the subject's exact birth date is unknown. I need to put in the person's death, which was on December 8th. I tried using the {{Death date and age}}, however I need to add the exact birthday. Is there a way to put the death without the exact birth date? -- Luke (Talk) 21:09, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

They are vandalism. Replacing content on user talk pages with repeated characters is considered vandalism and repeated vandalism will result in a block. Period. TBloemink talk 15:07, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

Knicks task force welcome

Hi, and welcome to the New York Knicks task force! We are a group of (mainly) Knicks fans who help to improve coverage related to the New York Knicks on Wikipedia.

Looking for somewhere to start? Here is a few suggestions.

  • You can check out topics on the main page.
  • You can add {{WikiProject NBA|Knicks-task-force=yes}} to talk pages of New York Knicks-related articles, and assess them as well.
  • Check out the to do list for the task force, and opt to try and complete some of those tasks.

If you have any comments, suggestions, or would like to talk about the project in general, feel free to leave a message on the talk page.

Happy New Year! NYCRuss 15:57, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on BWiser/CC Article requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to an article talk page, image description page, image talk page, mediawiki page, mediawiki talk page, category talk page, portal talk page, template talk page, help talk, user page, or user talk page from the article space.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Ankit Maity Talkcontribs 16:30, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for tagging it. I just moved that userspace draft from the mainspace a couple of minutes ago. -- Luke (Talk) 16:33, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

Hoaxes

Please keep in mind that violations of WP:MADEUP do not qualify as hoaxes for the sake of the G3 speedy deletion criteria. There has never been any consensus for the speedy deletion of stuff that kids invent on the spur of the moment. Please use proposed deletion on such occurrences. Thank you. -- Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 03:33, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for letting me know. I will keep my eye out next time. -- Luke (Talk) 03:46, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Articles for Creation Appeal

Articles for Creation urgently needs your help!

Articles for Creation is desperately short of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors, in reviewing submissions in the pending submissions queue. Currently there are 1026 submissions waiting to be reviewed.

Do you have what it takes?
  1. Are you familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines?
  2. Do you know what Wikipedia is and is not?
  3. Do you have a working knowledge of the Manual of Style, particularly article naming conventions?
  4. Are you autoconfirmed?
  5. Can you review submissions based on their individual merits?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog.

A barnstar for you!

Hey Luke! Just dropping by to let the hosts know about some new suggestions I've made based on interactions at the Teahouse thus far. Please take a look when you can! Thanks and see you at the Teahouse. Thanks for your work you've done so far, too! New suggestions regarding Q&A participation for hosts. SarahStierch (talk) 19:25, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your help with the vital work of patrolling new pages. I noticed that you are not marking some of the pages you've reviewed as patrolled. Please do remember to click the 'mark this page as patrolled' link at the bottom of the new page if you have performed the standard patrolling tasks. Where appropriate, doing so saves time and work by informing fellow patrollers of your review of the page, so that they do not duplicate efforts. Thanks again for volunteering your time at the new pages patrol project. →Στc. 00:23, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
